Biographical / Historical

The society was founded in 1921, as the National Society for Crippled Children. Name changed in 1922 to International Society for Crippled Children. The national and international organizations were the same body until 1939, when the national organization became an affiliate of the international group. At this time, the National Society for Crippled Children of the United States of America was formed and the international group organized as the International Society for the Welfare of Cripples. The name of the national group was changed to National Society for Crippled Children and Adults about 1944. In Nov. 1964 it became National Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults. Name was changed to National Easter Seal Society in 1980.

Abstract The Ivy Baker Priest papers (1889-1975) document the career of this U. S. Treasurer and California State Treasurer and are concerned primarily with national and California political issues. A Utah native, Priest (1905-1975) was active in Republican party activities, was an unsuccessful Utah congressional candidate in 1934 and 1950, and served on Utah's Women's Legislative Council.
