Biographical sketch. Converted to Mormonism in 1832. Member of Zion's Camp, 1834. Settled in Far West, 1837. Fought in the Battle of Crooked River in which David W. Patten was killed. Moved to Nauvoo in 1839. Appointed commander of the Nauvoo Legion 29 April 1844. May 14, 1844, sent to Michigan to campaign for Joseph Smith's election as president. Fled Nauvoo 15 February 1846. Appointed to preside over Pisgah Stake April 1846. Arrived Council Bluffs 12 March 1847. Appointed to the California Mission to locate land for incoming converts from the Pacific Islands. In 1851 he purchased a ranch in San Bernardino for this purpose. Remained in California until 1857. Represented Davis County in the territorial legislature in 1858. 8 pp.
