Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The William H. Bowers papers (1875-1979) contain materials relating to William H. Bowers (1841-1892), a man well known in the mining and metallurgic circles of the last half of the nineteenth century. The bulk of the collection consists of bids, contracts, and agreements, contained in folder 1, concerning Bowers' work with various mining companies, as well as original patents for his inventions and improvements which can be found in folder 3. A memorandum concerning the specifications for a 10 Stamp Dry Crushing Mill is contained in folder 2. Folder 4 contains a small amount of correspondence responding to inquiries made by Bowers' grandson, George P. Bowers, along with three empty envelopes found with the collection. Folder 5 contains, along with obituary notices, two articles concerning the noted artist James T. Harwood, one regarding the membership of George P. Bowers in the Masons, and a 1971 reprint of an 1877 advertisement for Griffith & Wedge's Bowers Air Compressor. Box 2 contains Bowers' Justice of the Peace Certificate, awarded in 1864, and a payroll sheet for Moulton Mining Company from 1881.
