From the Collection:
The Utah State Democratic Committee records (1954-2012) holds correspondence and documents regarding the committee's organization and function and has been organized into four broad divisions. Correspondence and information about the committee organization and function comprises the first division, composed of two boxes. The correspondence is arranged chronologically, followed by the charter and bylaws, and minutes and membership lists from the executive, central, public relations and county committees.
Division two contains the bulk of the collection in 13 boxes about the election process. Beginning with information on mass meetings, delegate selection and delegates, the papers follow the election process through the conventions, platforms and various candidates and campaigns to the voting statistics and legislative rosters. The papers are arranged chronologically within each section with state materials preceding national. Included in this division is information on state and national campaign and election laws and a report on Utah Reapportionment.
Financial records, filling seven boxes, comprise the third section. The general financial records are fairly scanty, consisting of chronologically filed bills, receipts, budgets and reports filling one box. The other six boxes contain information on a number of projects and continuing groups or events designed to raise funds for the democratic party of Utah. Included are papers from the party telethons from 1972 through 1975, governor's balls from 1967 through 1980, the One Hundred Club from 1965 through 1976, the Century Club from 1977 through 1979 and some papers from Jefferson-Jackson Dinners held between 1961 and 1979.
The fourth division consists of eight boxes of miscellaneous material. One box contains party identification forms for persons seeking patronage positions. These are arranged alphabetically by county. There is one box containing information, flyers, forms and lists dealing with party-sponsored conferences and various Democratic Party groups. A third box contains newsletters, press releases, resolutions and similar materials. The remaining four boxes contain news clippings from 1962 to 1976, name lists and numerous computer print-outs.
Addenda to the collection, boxes 32-55, consists of administrative documents, including reports, election records, voter surveys, news clippings, and financial papers.
Addenda to the collection, boxes 56-64, also consists of administrative documents. This includes correspondence, legal documents and legislation, periodicals and news clippings, fundraising and financial records, campaign materials and advertisements, event invitations and records, as well as documents concerning the various Senate districts and precincts throughout Utah. The addenda also includes electronic files on disc, which contain information on Committee finances, strategies, and candidates.
