  1. Monday, 9 January: "At work. Weighed 103 1/2 lbs. today, being an advance of 3 1/2 lbs. since I was last weighed. Legislature convened today. Went to my Bookkeeping class in evening. Extremely cold."
  2. Thursday, 12 January: "...I met bro. Empey in his buggy. He asked me if I would undertake to keep the 13th Ward Tithing Books. I said I would..."
  3. Monday, 16 January: "At work weighed 108 lbs. today. Still extremely cold..."
  4. Wednesday, 18 January: "At work. Went to the House of Representatives and presented written applications to Rep. King for copying work before the close of the session..."
  5. Tuesday, 24 January: "At work in Historian's office..."
  6. Thursday, 26 January: "...David Whitmore died at his home..."
  7. Wednesday, 8 February: "At work. Went to the 'News' office on an errand. Br. Nicholson thinking I was out of employment spoke to me in regard to engaging me to work in the Editorial department of the 'News' office. Of course, although there was a vacancy there I did not feel like accepting as I would have to give up work in the Historian's office..."
  8. Friday, 10 February: "...It is one year ago today since I was married to Elvira in the Logan Temple."
  9. Tuesday, 3 April: "...A woman was found murdered in George's Yard, Whitechapel, London, today. This makes three of the same kind of murders in a few days. No clue."
  10. Saturday, 28 April: "...This being the 27th anniversary of my birth my dear wife, Elvira, presented me with a nice hammock for outdoors..."
  11. Monday, 21 May: "...the dedication services of the Manti Temple continued today. Many spiritual things were made manifest, such as hearing angelic voices, seeing lights over the heads of the speakers and seeing the spirits of some saints."
  12. Sunday, 27 May: "Apostle Erastus Snow died in the city at about 7 o'clock this evening..."
  13. Tuesday, 7 August: "A woman named Martha Turner, aged 35, was found dead at Whitechapel, London, with 39 bayonet or dagger wounds on her body. This is the 3rd murder of women in that place since March. no clue."
  14. Friday, 31 August: "Another woman was found dead today in Whitechapel, London. The body was cut up and mutilated. This makes four of the same kind of murders since March. No Clue."
  15. Friday, 9 November: "Another woman was found murdered in London...and like the other victims is a prostitute though married. This is the ninth..."
