"The Canyonlands Controversy" (1966), written by John T. Orton for a University of Utah political science course, is an examination of the events surrounding the establishment of Canyonlands National Park in southeastern Utah. The document is divided into four parts: "The History," "The Controversy," "The Interests," and "The Results." The author includes typescripts of statements made at Congressional hearings regarding the creation of the park, as well as maps. A separate "scrapbook" holds photocopied news clippings that document Orton's paper.
