Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
The Willis D. Johnson papers (1937-1999) contain books, journals, notebooks, news clippings, and a scrapbook documenting the family history and river-rafting/adventurer career of native Utahn Willis D. Johnson. Particularly interesting in this collection is the Willis D. Johnson scrapbook which is replete with photos, news clippings, correspondence, and diary entries documenting the exploits of Johnson and his friends Buzz Holmstrom, Russel Frazier, Amos Berg, and Charles Kelly. Postcards from Antarctica and photos of both reservoir-free Glen Canyon and the Crossing of the Fathers on the Colorado River are some of the more interesting materials found in the scrapbook. Also well documented in this collection is Willis' pioneer and family history which are preserved in a biography of Mormon pioneer Aaron Johnson, Willis' grandfather, in an autobiography of Aaron Johnson Jr., Willis' father, in a scrapbook containing information on Moses Johnson, Willis' thespian cousin, and in a book chronicling the history of Edwin Whiting, Moses' great grandfather.
