Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Jerry H. Dunton papers (1971-2001) are a collection of memorabilia from the Utah Westerners, a group of amateur and professional historians. Included are the Lieutenant Maguire maps which are renderings of the Little Bighorn Battlefield commissioned by the U.S. Army. Two newsletters from the Custer Battlefield Historical and Museum Association, The Battlefield Dispatch, are also in the collection. There is a transcript of an interview given by Alexander J. MacKenzie to Harold Schindler in 1971. MacKenzie was the city editor of the Salt Lake Tribune in 1904, and at the time of the interview was 94 years old. Included are minutes of the Utah Westerners meeting and magazine articles relating to the West and Custer's last stand.
