Scope and Contents

Typescript pages with autobiographical information by John M. Whitaker. Includes text from previously untranslated material from John M. Whitaker’s journals, covering entries from February and March of 1896; Typescript “Memorandum” (9 pages) of John M. Whitaker’s activities from March 1896 through December 1897, when he left for his mission in the eastern United States; “Memorandum (7 pages), typescript of John M. Whitaker’s activities at the start of his mission, December 1897 and January 1898 (includes handwritten additions).

Twenty-four hour advanced notice encouraged. Materials must be used on-site. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.

Some original items have been removed and placed in Reserve. Access must be given by the Manuscripts Curator and by appointment. An archivist must remain with the items if being used. Photocopies are available in the collection for research use.
