Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Joseph Severn and Marjorie Allen family papers (1855-2007) consist of correspondence, autobiographical and biographical materials, missionary journals, diaries, physician notes, newspaper clippings, photos, autograph albums, lecture notes, postcards, Christmas cards, and travel memorabilia. The collection is comprised of materials pertaining to the lives of three generations of the extended Jones and Allen families. John Lowry's testimomy concerning the origins of the Blackhawk War can be found in box 4. Located in box 13 are Samuel H. Allen's observations and commentaries about the fifteen post-graduate study trips which he took visiting hospitals throughout the United States and Europe during the first two decades of the twentieth century. M. Lowry Allen's description of the harrowing problems which Mormon missionaries confronted while attempting to leave Germany at the outbreak of World War I can be accessed in box 15.
