Pine Basin Ski Area, Targhee National Forest, Rope Tow Study, 1963
File — Box: 1, Folder: 5
Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
The Richard J. Bird papers (1963-1990) concern the development and installation of aerial tram and rope tow equipment for recreational ski areas. Three reports, two by the United States Forest Service and the other by the American National Standard Institute document the development of equipment use from the mid 1960s through 1990. In addition, the collection contains a number of on-site inspection reports. A rope tow study of Skyline Ski Area, Caribou National Forest and another study of Pine Basin Ski Area, Targhee National Forest both completed in 1963 offers insight into the beginning of this equipments' history at recreational ski areas. Finally, newspaper articles concerning the collapse of the Pomerelle Ski Area lift in 1973 discuss further development of standards after that accident.
