Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Federal Resources Corporation records (1930-1989) contain the "dead files" of this corporation. The focus of the materials is primarily uranium and reflect the company's interest in the western states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Washington, and, especially, Utah and Wyoming. However, materials resulting from company activities in Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oklahoma, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, as well as some Canadian provinces are also present.

This collection is comprised of 108 boxes of materials, 43 of which contain large-format maps and other oversize documents. The maps, stored in boxes 62-105, are of varying quality and usefulness. A cross-reference note will lead the researcher to the box and folder containing correspondence, reports, or other papers which relate to the map in some fashion. Folders also contain memos to direct the researcher to the correct flat box in which to find related maps.

The order of arrangement was largely determined by the pre-existing order in which the files came from Federal Resources, and is informally divided into five sections. First there are two boxes of cancelled stock certificates, taken as a sample from a larger group of certificates, that document the consolidation of many pre-existing companies into the remaining company. The next section consists of eight record boxes that contain the office operation files. The third section, record boxes 11-62, consists of the exploration files. This is the heart of the collection and is organized by state, with subsections for major development sites within each state. Federal Resources Corp. used a system of X-codes in their filing system that has been retained in this inventory. These codes are:

Throughout the inventory, notations indicate the location of maps separated from other materials. Lastly, there are three boxes of oversize items such as radon logs and notebooks.

Throughout the inventory, where date spans for multiple-folder items are given, the items are arranged in reverse date order, as originally found.
