No. 811 Fred Shubert, 2012
File — Box: 75, Folder: 5
Scope and Contents
- Philadelphia-born climber Fred Schubert grew up in central New York, and got into hiking and skiing at an early age. He started climbing in Chicago gyms in the mid-1990s, and moved into outdoor climbing in the early 2000s in Salt Lake City. Fred’s climbing really took off when he joined the Wasatch Mountain Club, a place where he did some climbing instruction at the time of the interview. He talks about climbing, teaching, and some destinations like Cat in the Hat and Physical Graffiti, and muses on the outdoor recreation community and atmosphere in Utah, and emphasizes the important role of shared responsibility in climbing.
