Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Wasatch Mountain Club was organized in 1920 to provide an active and educational group for those who enjoyed hiking, ski touring, river running, and mountain climbing. Four albums contain photographs from the early years of the organization and include images of group members involved in winter and summer activities in the Wasatch Mountains. Locations include Brighton, Timpanogos area (including a photo of people using the first trail to the cave; Number 1161), Ensign Peak, Alta, Ogden Canyon, Mount Olympus, Mount Logan, and other locations along the Wasatch range. Most images are group photos in scenic areas in the Wasatch.

Mark Jones, Historian for the Wasatch Mountain Club, undertook the massive project of identifying, or contacting members who could identify, many of the albums. Captions updated 2022.

Twenty-four hour advanced notice encouraged. Materials must be used on-site. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.
