Scope and Contents

Hayashi (b. 1923) recalls growing up in the small farming community of Fort Lupton, Colorado. He attempted to join the Air Corps but was classified as 4-C, or alien. His classification was later changed to 1-A and he was drafted into the army and assigned to the Military Intelligence School at Fort Snelling. The war ended while he was on a transport ship to Manila. He was a translator in the prosection section responsible for trying Japanese war criminals until he was discharged in 1946.
