Scope and Contents

From the Collection: "Histories and Poems Written and Compiled by Mary Jane Orrock Seegmiller" (1954) is a typescript history of Mary Cumming Orrock, followed by genealogical material on the Cumming family; a history of William Cumming Blythe Orrock and his wife Mary Ann Ogden Orrock; and the poems, "Memories of My Mother," and "My Memories of the Academy Hall." The latter was written for the unveiling of a plaque placed where the rostrum of the hall had stood. Academy Hall, the first public building in Richfield, Utah, was built by three Farnsworth brothers for a dance hall and opened on Christmas day of 1873. Other poems include, "To Uncle Sam" (in regards to recycling material for WWII), "The Telephone Strike" (thoughts on the telephone), "The Drip from My Nose" (the flu), "There's a Lock on the Chicken Coop Door," and "Mom's Tummy." Included also are two poems by Alice Morrey Bailey: "Wedding Day, Avis and Malcolm" and "Gift of Majesty," the latter honoring the birth of Jesus.
