Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Eva A. Paxman biography on Olive Alger Truman (b. 1894), a southern Utah nursing home administrator, is titled "Look Up, Laugh and Live." It is an intimate and personal account, full of memories and family stories, that recounts the life of Olive Alger, her childhood, her marriage to Thomas Truman, and their subsequent moves throughout Utah and Nevada at the turn-of-the-century. In addition, the biography discusses Prohibition and the trials of "Zez," who ran a still near Enterprise, Utah; the impact of the 1918 influenza epidemic; the settlement of Eureka, Nevada, and Enterprise, Utah; and the history of the Truman Rest Home in Saint George, Utah.
