The Caledonia Club ledger (1876-1894) details the club's financial activities in Virginia City, Nevada. Virginia City, Nevada, made its place in history when gold was found in Six-Mile Canyon in 1859 by two miners. Another miner, Henry Comstock, claimed their find was on his property and the lode became his namesake. Not only was gold found, however, but the sticky blue-gray mud miners were digging through turned out to be silver ore worth over $2,000 per ton. President Abraham Lincoln used these resources throughout the Civil War, thus making Virginia City a boomtown and influencing Nevada's statehood.
