Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Utah and Colorado photograph album collection consists of 1 box containing 1 Gilson Adjustable photograph album containing 90 black-and-white images of Utah and Colorado circa 1895-1903. The images have labels in the bottom right that were handwritten on the negatives and reproduced in the prints. There is no information about the photographer or the compiler or owner of the album. Subjects include: early Salt Lake City, including the Tabernacle, the Salt Lake Temple, the state capitol building, the Salt Palace, and Saltair. Also included are photos of Colorado, including Denver; Pike's Peak and the Garden of the Gods; Cheyenne Canyon and Seven falls; and the Gunnison River. Several of the images of Colorado appear to have been taken from the window of a moving train. The album also has images of outdoor areas in Utah, including: Maple Canyon; Provo Canyon; and houses in Spanish Fork.
