Yellowstone National Park, 1936 August

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 1

Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Yellowstone National Park photograph album collection consists of 1 oversize box containing an annotated vernacular photograph album of a trip through Yellowstone National Park in August 1936. The album is of tied construction with the word "PHOTOGRAPHS" and an embossed pair of elks on the faux brown leather cover. It contains 58 annotated photos with five 3x5 inch manuscript cards giving a brief history of facts concerning Yellowstone National Park and 1 loose color postcard. Although the tourists are pictured they are not identified. Most of the images feature the sites inside of the park and the North Fork scenic highway between Cody, Wyoming and the east gate park entrance. The photos, all of which are identified, include: Hell's Half Acre; Old Faithful Geyser; Grotto Geyser; Mammoth Hot Springs, Canyon Lodge, Buffalo Bill's statue in Cody, Pahaska Tepee at Yellowstone's east entrance and the visualized rock formations on the North Fork including Elephant Head; Chimney Rock and the Laughing Pig. We have never owned a Yellowstone photo album which featured these rock formations.
