Organizational History

The Canyons resort traces its history to the activities of businessman Calvin R. MacKay. He recognized the pristine skiing conditions provide in the White Pine Canyon area. Mr MacKay opened Park City West, then later changed its name to Park West in effort to distingush his resort from the nearby Park City resort. The owner of Park West was unable to tap into the incredible ski terrain because of inadequate funding.

In 1994, Park West was sold and the name was changed to Wolf Mountain. The new owner's efforts operating the resort as Wolf Mountain were shortlived. In 1997, Wolf Mountain sold to its present owners American Skiing Company. They renamed the resort The Canyons. The resort's new owners have completly refurbished and expanded the resort. Eight hundred new acres of ski terrain were opened, making available some of the most challenging skiing Utah has to offer. New living accomodations were built creating a top-rate ski village. To date The Canyons is a flourishing top-notch resort.
