The James S. R. Wilson diary (1875) was kept by Wilson while a member of the William Ludlow expedition to Yellowstone Park. Apparently, this volume was the first of two. Wilson describes distances traveled, adventures of his traveling party, boredom and mosquitos, animal sightings, camp life, Indians, and the weather.

Biographical Sketch

James S. R. Wilson was a member of Colonel William Ludlow's expedition to Yellowsone Park in 1875, three years after Yellowstone was established as the nation's first national park. His main duty was to ride the odometer to measure distances traveled. Further biographical information could not be found.
