Barbara Stewart Anderson papers
Collection
Identifier: ACCN 2184
Scope and Contents
The Barbara Stewart Anderson papers (1901-2001) focus extensively on the activities of her father Ray Stewart, the founder of Timp Haven Ski Resort. Barbara Stewart Anderson is a major supporter of the Utah Ski Archives and the Alf Engen Ski Museum in Park City. Her collection is a valuable addition to the Utah Ski Archives as it contains unique images, documents, and correspondence from her family's rich heritage. Particularly important are twelve valuable land patents deeding lands to the North Fork Investment Company, as well as historic newspaper clippings from the Provo Herald (of which few copies still exist), and hand-written documentation of water levels in Provo Canyon in 1903. The company, founded by members of the Stewart family eventually obtained 3,000 acres of land in Provo Canyon. In the 1950s Timp Haven Ski Resort flourished under the direction of Ray Stewart, Paul Stewart, and their partner Junior Bounous. In 1969, the resort was sold to Robert Redford who renamed it Sundance.
