Scope and Contents

The Eugene Nicholas Kovalenko papers (1943-2009) contain correspondence, a project entitled "Journal of an Excommunicant," and poetry. Box 8 contains correspondence to and from Howard Salisbury, and the KGB agent, Nikolai Khokhlov. Boxes 9-10 contain more correspondence with various individuals along with writings and reports. Box 11 contains general materials.

Biographical / Historical

Eugene Nicholas Kovalenko (b. November 17, 1933) studied at the University of California and received his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Utah. Kovalenko's papers and writings primarily deal with his relationship to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and his two excommunications.

Abstract

The Eugene Nicholas Kovalenko papers (1943-2009) contain correspondence, diaries, poetry, commentary on his poetry, day planner pages, a project entitled "Journal of an Excommunicant," and newspaper clippings. Kovalenko studied at the University of California and at the University of Utah, where he received a Ph.D. in Materials Science.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Box 1 folders 1-3 were donated in 2004.

Box 1 folder 4 through box 2 were donated in 2005.

Boxes 3-7 were donated in 2006.

Box 8 was donated in 2008.

Boxes 9-11 were donated by Eugene Kovalenko in 2012.

Separated Materials

CDs and DVDs were transferred to the Multimedia Division of Special Collections (A0837). The CDs contain songs sung by Kovalenko as well as his commentary on the songs.
