Biographical Sketch

John A. Compton was born in Virginia in 1758. His son, Allen Compton, was a member of the Mormon Battalion, the first mail deliverer to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, an Indian fighter (apparently during the Black Hawk War), and a ferryman on the Missouri River. Allen Compton died in 1854 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
