Scope and Contents

The Thomas Evans Jeremy papers (1847-1869) hold three documents. The first is a copy of a poem by Jeremy, "A Voice of the Prophet." The second is the trial proceedings of Ethan Pettit vs. Lorenzo Brower and Ezra Pettit, a case heard by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints High Council, of which Jeremy was a member. The proceedings concerned water rights and fishing privileges on the Jordan River in Salt Lake County. The third is a list of the letters, diaries, and accounts held by the Historical Department of the LDS Church.

Biographical Sketch

Thomas Evans Jeremy was born in Llanegwad, Caermarthenshire, South Wales, on 11 July 1815. He was converted to the LDS Church in 1846 and emigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah, with his family in 1849. He served in various capacities in his church and community, including being patriarch of the Salt Lake Stake. Thomas Evans Jeremy died in 1891.
