Scope and Contents
The Lyman P. Hunter papers (1890-1985) contain articles, genealogy materials, meeting minutes, correspondence, news clippings, reports, research proposals, training manuals, newsletters, and speeches. These items focus on three areas of interest to Hunter (1898-1985): environmental quality, the coating industry (of paints, stains, and varnishes), and biographical material. Of special interest are the copies of "San Juan Remembered," a written remembrance by Hunter of the time he spent in southeastern Utah (1920-1922) in which he recalls the landscape and the people he encountered, particularly the Native Americans.

Biographical Sketch
Lyman P. Hunter was born in Salt Lake City on 1 December 1898 to Edward W. and Elizabeth Adeline Porter Hunter. He attended LDS High School and then the University of Utah, studying chemistry and engineering. He worked as a chemist for the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company from 1922 to 1924, then worked for Bennett's Glass and Paint until his retirement in 1968. Hunter was the author of many articles and presented several papers on paint technology. Lyman P. Hunter died in 1985.

Boxes 1-7 were donated in 1973 and 1981. Box 8 was donated in 1993.
