Abstract

The Thorn L. Mayes Sr. papers (1920s-1980s) consist of correspondence, maps, brochures, pamphlets, articles, field books, bulletins, and other materials concerning the exploration of canyon country in Utah and Arizona. A graduate of the University of California (1927), Thorn L. Mayes Sr. (1903-1987) was an electrical engineer who conducted geologic explorations of various areas in the western United States, such as Monument Valley.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Boxes 1-6 were donated in 1990-2000 (4.75 linear feet).

Box 7 was donated in 2005 (0.5 linear feet).

Box 7, folders 11-12 were donated by Thorn L. Mayes, Sr. in 2009 and 2011.

Separated Materials

Photographs were transferred to the Multimedia Division of Special Collections (P0355).
