 Collection
Identifier: ACCN 1634

Scope and Contents

The geology index (1890-1937) is a series of 3" x 5" cards that hold entries indexing books and papers on geology topics. The date of its preparation was unrecorded, but the works indexed were published between circa 1890 and circa 1937, with the bulk of them published in the 1920s and 1930s. The first card in box 3 gives "Directions to Using Index." Cards in boxes 1 and 2 are numbered; these numbers are used as cross-referencing tools in boxes 3-6. Cards in box 1 list title and publication information for individual textbooks and monographs; United States Geological Service bulletins, circulars, professional papers; and other documents. Cards in box 2 list authors and the titles of their papers or books. Cards in boxes 3-5 list topics that are cross-referenced to individual authors and books in boxes 1 and 2. Box 6 holds cards that index stratigraphy topics and are also cross-referenced.
