Scope and Contents

The Miles Pratt Romney papers (1881-1984) consist of diaries (use the photocopies of the diaries), newspaper clippings, certificates, typescripts of autobiographies and biographies, day books, note cards, correspondence, a published book and oral histories pertaining to the family of Miles Pratt Romney. Included also are photocopies of pictures of the Romney family members. Most of the pictures document a trip the family took back to Mexico to see their former home.

Box 3, folders 6-9 contain the original diaries which are restricted. Photocopies are available.

Twenty-four hour advanced notice encouraged. Materials must be used on-site. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.

Biographical Sketch

Miles Pratt Romney (1903-1980) was born in Colonial Dublan in Chihuahua, Mexico. He was raised there until the Revolution in Mexico and his family was driven out of the country in 1912. Miles Park Romney, his grandfather, was one of the original settlers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints colonies in Mexico. Romney was president of the United Park Mines Company and a professional geologist and amateur archaeologist. Romney received a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in 1935. Romney died 9 December 1980 after a long illness.
