Scope and Contents
The William P. Nisbet papers (1893-1942) consists of a journal and a scrapbook which document the life of William Nisbet (1869-1940), a Scottish immigrant to America. The journal focuses on Nisbet's activities in Scotland as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The scrapbook contains news clippings, correspondence, programs, cards, poetry, and certificates concerning Nisbet's family and his Scottish heritage. Also included in the scrapbook are typed and written quotations on various subjects collected by Nisbet.

Conditions Governing Access
Twenty-four hour advanced notice encouraged. Materials must be used on-site. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.
Folder 1 and a letter from folder 5 have been removed and placed in Reserve. Access must be given by the Manuscripts Curator and by appointment. An archivist must remain with the items if being used. The collection contains photocopied access versions for researchers.

Biographical Note
William Nisbet was born in Claythorne, Renfrewshire, Scotland, and emigrated to America in 1890. He joined the LDS Church the next year and served his first mission in 1898. Later in life, he became Salt Lake County deputy sheriff and then the chief gardener at the Utah State Capitol.
