Biographical Note
Stanley Smith ("Smitty") Stevens (1906-1973) was born in Ogden, Utah to Stanley and Adeline Smith Stevens. He went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1925-1928 to Belgium and Switzerland. He attended the University of Utah, but transferred to Stanford University where in 1931 he received his A. B. degree. Originally pursuing medicine as a career, Stevens was admitted to Harvard Medical School, but he later changed to Psychology. Stevens received a Ph.D. in 1933 from Harvard University. He later became a professor and the director of the psychophysics laboratory at Harvard University.
