Biographical Sketch
The Cherry Blossom Princess Program is linked with the National Cherry Blossom Festival commemorating the gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to Washington D.C in 1912. These cherry trees reinforced the growing friendship and appreciation of cultures between the United States and Japan. Beginning in 1948 state societies select young woman who stand out in excellence among their peers to participate in the Cherry Blossom Festival as an ambassador titled "Cherry Blossom Princess." Through this program these young women participate in numerous educational and cultural activities serving their nation and representing their state.
