Biographical Note
Stephen B. Smith graduated with a Masters in Architecture from the University of Utah in 1975. He acted as principal and director of Gillies Stransky Brems Smith (GSBS) since 1986. Notable projects GSBS has worked on include the AlphaGraphics headquarters built in the Brooks Arcade building in the Salt Lake City Utah and the Merrill-Cazier Library located at Utah State University.
Smith is affiliated with various national architectural organizations including but not limited to the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), the American Planning Association (APA) and the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Smith and GSBS have been involved in many community and school education programs including "Expanding the Classroom" for the Utah Heritage Foundation (UHF).

Arrangement
The collection is arranged into six series: GSBS administrative materials, Projects, School programs, Civil and community, Professional materials and General materials. GSBS Administrative have been organized by subject (i.e. marketing materials). Projects have been arranged alphabetically. Professional materials organized by organization or subject into subseries (i.e. the AIA or Transportation conferences) and chronologically within subseries. General conferences and programs are listed after major organizations, but maintain chronological order. General materials are at the end to the collection.
