Biographical Note

William "Bill" Lash (b. Feb. 1, 1928) started skiing at an early age in Sun Valley, Idaho. He helped design and build a ski lift at Magic Mountain Ski Area and ran its ski school from 1947-1949. He attended the University of Utah in early 1950s and directed its ski program. He became certified with the Intermountain Ski Instructors Association in 1950 and served as its second president from 1951-1953, and again from 1955-1962. He was a ski instructor at Alta and founded the Professional Ski Instructors of America in 1961, serving as president for nine years. He was a key figure in the founding of the Professional Ski Instructors Association (PSIA) serving as its founding president from 1960 to 1968.

Lash was inducted into the United States Ski Hall of Fame in 1983 and in the PSIA-Intermountain Hall of Fame in 1989. He is the co-founder of the Veterans Ski Instructor Alliance.
