Biographical Note

Cleveland Smith Larsen (1892-1918) was born on November 7, 1892 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Niels S. and Ellen Gibson Smith Larsen. He attended LDS High School, graduating in 1915, before attending the University of Utah between 1916 and 1917. At the University he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and was involved in debate. On February 18, 1918, he entered the United States Army medical corps at the rank of Sergeant and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. He died several months later on April 1, 1918, of pneumonia, likely related to the global influenza pandemic of 1918.

Cleveland Smith Larsen (1892-1918) died in the global influenza pandemic while serving in the United States Military in World War I in 1918. This collection contains two formal portraits of Larsen.
