Historical Note

The University of Utah was founded in 1850 as the University of Deseret and closed in 1853 due to funding problems; it was reopened in 1867. Its name was changed to the Universtiy of Utah in 1892. It moved to its current location, near the site of the former Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1900.
