Scope and Contents
Quintus Charles Wilson (1903-1999) was a journalist, educator, and the founder of what is now known as the University of Utah department of communications. Wilson was born Dec. 31, 1903 in Fayette, Iowa to Emma and Charles Wilson. He received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, and PhD in history from the University of Minnesota. From 1929 to 1948, he worked as a journalist in Minnesota, including as city editor of the Mankato Daily Free Press and news editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
In 1948, Wilson moved to Salt Lake City and joined the University of Utah, where he established the Department of Journalism. In 1960, he moved to West Virginia University to establish a School of Journalism. From 1969 to 1975, he worked as a professor of journalism at Northern Illinois University. After his retirement, he returned to Utah in 1986, where he worked as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Utah until his death in 1999.
