Scope and Contents

The Hugo N. Olaiz collection (1543-2015) contains research papers on Spanish translations of the Bible in the sixteenth century. The collection also contains history and record information related to the cities and branches of the Argentina LDS Mission, most of which are written in Spanish. In addition records, history, and ward business records from the Oakland-Berkeley Ward and Stake of the LDS Church. The first addendum (boxes 5-8) contains research materials that include news clippings, articles, and electronic mail relating to the FLDS (Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints), Momonism and the internet, the Main Street Plaza controversy in Salt Lake City. General research materials include files on Brian David Mitchell, the abductor of Elizabeth Smart; the Salt Lake Olympics, the Deseret Alphabet, and the Da Vinvi Code. The second addendum (boxes 9-16) contains correspondence, organizational materials, and research materials related to the LDS Church and gay rights. Before they were archived, these materials were in the possession of Gregory A. Prince as additional research for his 2019 book Gay Rights and the Mormon Church: Intended Actions, Unintended Consequences. Some of these materials may be restricted from access to the general public for a time.

Twenty-four hour advanced notice encouraged. Materials must be used on-site. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.
