Suzy Harris Rytting photograph collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of one 4x6 black and white photograph of Suzy Harris Rytting posed for a photo while on skis (p0412n01_02_088) and over 200 digital scans of material retained by the Ryttings. These images were sent to the library digitally (emailed, on CD, flash drive, hard drive). The entire collection is available online here, in the digital library for research purposes. The image files can be requested, but the library did not create the scan and does not have the original images.
Other physical prints in folders 1-4, with the exception of p0412n01_02_088, were made from the digtail files and are not originals. Folder 5 images were taken with a digital camera, the prints were made from those files by the Ryttings and donatedto the library.
Suzy Harris Rytting was a member of the 1952 U.S. Olympic team and held many ski racing titles during the late 1940s and early 1950s. This collection reflects Suzy Rytting's career and time spent as a skier and model, and contains portraits of Suzy Rytting's friends and colleagues. The collection also addressed some of Rytting's involvement in Utah's bid for the Olympic Games during the 1990s. Suzy Harris Rytting's oral history is in the Everett L. Cooley Oral History Project 814, No.355.

Biographical Note
Suzy cut an incredible swath in the regional and national competitive ski scenes in the 1940s. That swath started on a pair of borrowed boots and a last-place finish in her first major race. It reached its zenith when she was named a member of the U.S. Olympic Ski Team in 1952, competing in Oslo, Norway.
Her skiing triumphs during the late 1940s established her as one of the finest female skiers in the country: 1947: The Snow Cup, Knudsen Cup, and Glacier (Mt. Timpanogos) races, 1948: The Harriman Cup and National Championships Combined, 1949: The Rustler Cup, Snow Cup, Western Interstate Championships, Millicent Cup, Intermountain Ski, Association (ISA) Championships, and Timpanogos Glacier Race
From 1947 through 1952 she was national slalom, downhill, and giant slalom champion, and was an eight-time national medalist. She won the Mary Cornelia National Collegiate Trophy in 1947, was named an alternate on the 1948 U.S. Olympic Alpine Team, and was a member of the 1950s U.S. Women’s FIS World Cup Team (which was recognized as the first USA Ski Team).
Suzy was inducted into the National Ski Hall of Fame in 1988, and in 1999 she was named one of Utah’s “50 Greatest Athletes of the Century” by The Salt Lake Tribune.
Rytting was inducted into the Intermountain Ski Hallof Fame in 2004. The above biograpical note is from that event.
