Norm Burton photograph collection

 Collection
Identifier: P0420

Scope and Contents

The Norm Burton collection focuses on ski instruction, techniques and ski instructors from 1950-1980. The majority of the collection consists of photographs of ski instructors and students participating in ski schools. Norm Burton was involved in the Intermountain Division of the Professional Ski Instructors of America and participated in many ski instructors' workshops, including one at Snow Basin in 1978. In addition to ski instruction photographs, the Burton collection contains portraits of Norm Burton's friends, associates and other notable skiers. Folders one through five are well identified.

The first addendum (folders 7-11) to the Norm Burton collection contains early portraits of Burton, sequences of slides demonstrating ski techniques, and various images of Burton participating in PSIA activities. At the time of scanning, few of the images contained any identification. The addendum consists solely of digital images taken from 35mm slides, which were loaned to the University of Utah by Norm Burton's wife in September 2003. The items were returned and the library no longer has the original items. All of the first addendum is online in the Marriott's Digtial Library . The second addendum (folders 12-15) contains more photographic prints of skiers and various gatherings on the slopes mainly through the 1970s.
