Biographical Note

Mack Smith Kesler (1911-1988) grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and contracted polio at the age of two, which made his right leg useless. He was an excellent athlete, despite his having to use crutches while growing up. He later had his weak leg amputated and replaced with an artificial limb, so he could walk with only the use of a cane. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in 1937 in Engineering and his master's from the University of Colorado in 1948. He became a faculty member at the University of Utah in 1940, working as a professor and counselor until he retired in 1985.

Kesler's parents, Alonzo Pratt Kesler and Donnette Smith Kesler, who was a daughter of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' president, Joseph F. Smith.
