Scope and Contents

The Ed and Cris Shearer photograph collection consists of 5 boxes cotaining 2,755 color photograph prints, negatives, and slides dating from 2002 to 2008. The images depict race events on the Bonneville Salt Flats such as Speed Week, World Finals, and World of Speed. Sponsors for events include Southern California Timing Association and Utah Salt Flats Racing Association. Donor-provided identification was used to title folders. Most images were identified by the donors, either on the back of prints or on accompanying sheets of paper, and include identification of drivers and vehicle types.

Biographical / Historical

Cris and Ed Shearer served as volunteer emergency workers and course stewards for motorsports events held on the Bonneville Salt Flats Race Track or Bonneville Speedway, which is located in the Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover, Utah. Events that the Shearers participated in include: Speed Week, the World Finals, and World of Speed. In 1998, the couple were named person of the year by the Bonneville 200 Miles Per Hour (MPH) Club, alongside Dave and Carl Koehler. In 2003, Ed and Cris Shearer were inducted into the Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame for their contributions to automobile events held at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
