The Ina Mae Murri photograph collection consists of 1 box containing 8 color photographs of Murri's family, friends, and pets. Many of the photographs were sent along with correpsondence. The folder contains copies of the accompanying correspondence; originals are in the Manuscript division of Special Collections.

Biographical / Historical

Ina Mae Murri (1935-2010) was born in Newdale, Idaho. She enlisted in the Air Force in 1955, and was discharged in 1956. After her discharge, she moved to Los Angeles to live with her mother. In 1960 she married James Sanders, and the two had a son the next year. They divorced in 1967. Murri later became active in LGBTQ+ groups in California such as Affirmation for Gay and Lesbian Mormons and Mormons for the Equal Rights Amendment. Murri published a newsletter titled “An Affinity for Women” for lesbian members of Affirmation. Through her activism in feminist and LGBTQ+ groups, Murri accumulated correspondents and friends world-wide. In 1980, Murri met Stella Lopez-Armijo, the woman who became her life-long partner. Together they founded the group Lavender Seniors. Ina Mae Murri and Stella Lopez-Armijo died in a car accident in 2010 while attending a family reunion in Idaho.
