Scope and Contents Beyer (b. 1923) grew up in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He discusses his early years and work with the Civilian Conservation Corps. Drafted in 1943, he received basic training in Arkansas. He volunteered for advanced paratroop training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was assigned to the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment, becaming part of the 17th Airborne Division.
