Scope and Contents Gurr (b. 1925) recalls his childhood in Utah and Nevada. He received an appointment from Senator Pat McCarran to the Annapolis Naval Academy, but turned it down because he was afraid the war would end before he graduated. He was sixteen years old at the time of Pearl Harbor and had dreamed of being in the armed forces since that time.
