The United States Pacific Telegraph stock subscribers ledger lists approximately 225 subscribers with shares purchased, in 1865, for the construction of a telegraph from Chicago to San Francisco. In 1869 this company merged with the Western Union Telegraph Company. Many of the leading names of American finance are listed among the subscribers, including two members of the Morgan family and two members of the Barney family.
