Scope and Contents From the Collection: The Alonzo Huckins diary was kept by Huckins during his travels in the 1860s. It contains almost no dates and is primarily concerned with listing the proper mileage between differing points along his routes. Each point notes available grass, wood, water, buffalo chips, and sage brush. The journal is divided into three accounts. The first is from Fort Leavenworth to Camp Floyd by way of Fort Laramie, South Pass, and Fort Bridger. The second is from Fort Leavenworth by way of Fort Riley to...
