Raaum was born in Norway in 1926 and first came to the United States as part of a Norwegian ski jumping team. He won many awards for ski jumping in the 1940s and 1950s and later became a successful accountant and was president of the Jackson Hole Ski Corporation from 1968 to 1970.

The William Spencer papers (1960-2000) contains a scrapbook, newsletter, and clippings documenting William Spencer's career as a University of Utah and United States ski racer and an Olympic biathlete. The materials also document the development of biathlon as an Olympic sport. Included is a photocopy of the book Biathlon by Arthur Stegen. Spencer is a biathlete, skier, and cyclist.
