The Emma Josephine Young Gilliland letter [typescript] was sent to her mother in 1850 July 23. This letter was written during a stop in Salt Lake City describing a trip from Indiana. Tells of the trip through Emigration Canyon, general trail conditions, food and conditions in Salt Lake City; tells of plan to move on to California in the spring. Typescript incomplete; last page of original letter missing.

This collection contains a draft of Gilmore's thesis on the Rogue River pioneer period, 1850-1862, completed by the author in 1952.

This is not a journal account, but rather Holt's recollection of life events written in 1881 when he was 77 years of age. James Holt (1804-1894) was an early member of the LDS Church who settled in southern Utah.
